Sweet Savings

The change of seasons is accompanied by many changes in our day-to-day lives.  We slip our feet into boots instead of sandals.  Baseball gets replaced with football.  White sugar is replaced with brown sugar.  Don't furrow your brow.  You may not do it consciously but our food choices also change and a lot of them are better accessorized with brown sugar.  Think about it.  This is the time of year when we get to indulge in dishes that feature apples and pumpkin and cinnamon.  All of which taste better with brown sugar.  The problem is that it likely has been a while since you have added brown sugar to your recipes.  So when you reach for this sweet ingredient you find that it is one big lump which is as hard as a rock.  Don't be so quick to throw it in the trash.  There is a simple fix.  Place a piece of bread in the container of sugar and seal the container.  By the next day the sugar will be soft and crumbly – perfect and ready to be used in your favorite fall dish.  How sweet it is!
