Minimize – Don’t Supersize

We have previously discussed the benefits of packing a lunch when you have to eat away from home.  But, let's face it, some days it just doesn't happen.  It could be time to go grocery shopping so you don't have anything to pack. Maybe the alarm didn't go off and you barely have time to brush your teeth if you want to get to work on time.  Regardless of the reason, you find yourself at lunchtime with nothing to eat, not much time and you don't want to bust your budget by eating out.  Fear not!  You can minimize the damage.  If this is the day that fast food is the best answer, consider ordering from the value menu.  At most restaurants, each item will be about a dollar, which allows you to get a meal for less than $4 (versus $6-$8 if you order a "value" meal).  You have the added benefit of financially-driven portion control.  The fact is that, unless you are training to run a marathon, these smaller food items are more than enough to satisfy your hunger.  Plus you are decreasing the amount of unwanted calories, fat, cholesterol and salt.  So skip the supersize and minimize!
